Welcome to the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) Library, a vibrant hub for knowledge and research at UPLB. The Library’s primary focus is on forestry and related disciplines, serving students, faculty, research staff, and dedicated researchers across the College, which consists of four academic units: the Department of Forest Biological Sciences, Department of Forest Products and Paper Science, Department of Social Forestry and Forest Governance, and Institute of Renewable Natural Resources.Â
Additionally, the Library collaborates with four non-academic units engaged in numerous research, extension, and forest management initiatives. These are the Forestry Development Center, Institute of Agroforestry, Training Center for Tropical Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, and the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems.
Mission
To contribute to the goals of the College, which pertain to the development of the College major and three-fold function, which is the development of instruction, research, and extension programs.
Vision
The College Library is envisioned to be an information center on forestry and natural resources, fully equipped with new and modern library technologies to strengthen and facilitate the development of better and more efficient services to library users.
Brief History
The Forest School, which began as a department of the College of Agriculture in 1910, was renamed the School of Forestry in 1924. The institution was renamed the College of Forestry on June 4, 1949. At the start of forest school, there was a need for reading materials for students and faculty members, therefore a collection of reading materials was formed and held in one room inside the structure that serves as the College of Forestry Library. Mrs. Juanita C. Ranit was employed as College Librarian in 1958. The Library was automatically renamed the College of Forestry and Natural Resources Library when the College of Forestry was renamed the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) in 1998.
From 1958 until the present, the CFNR Library has kept up with growth and development by maintaining a large collection of books, other reading materials, and library services. The CFNR Library is on the second floor of the Forestry Information Building, Gregorio Zamuco Hall, and has a floor area of 974.63 square meters, including two mezzanines that have housed the Computer and Multimedia Section and the Circulation Section.
The Library had acquired an estimated total of 20,000 volumes of reading resources in the form of books, journals, theses, dissertations, and non-book library materials as of May 2023.
