The CFNR Kapehan series: Exploring the Richness of Native Fruit Trees in the Philippines – Economic Significance, Utilization, and Advocacy for a Fruitful Future, held on 30 July 2024 at the AV Manza Room, concluded with a resounding call for increased awareness and action. Dr. Analyn L. Codilan, Associate Dean of CFNR, shared her expertise and experiences from her ongoing research project on native fruit trees in the Philippines, in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Food Science (UPLB – CAFS).

Dr. Codilan captivated the audience with her insights into the economic potential, usage, and conservation of these often-overlooked treasures. Discussions covered a range of topics, from the challenges faced by local farmers to innovative culinary uses, flavoring agents, ecological impact, and market development. 

The event powerfully underscored the importance of championing these Indigenous fruits for their economic benefits, as well as their critical role in preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Participants left with a renewed appreciation for the vital role that native fruit trees play in shaping a more sustainable and fruitful future for the Philippines.
